Have you have ever wanted to steer a canal boat or improve your technique?

If you have struggled to get started, especially when reversing or turning, you will, indeed, find out exactly why you simply “haven’t learnt to do it - YET”.

This pocket book is packed with detailed information on how to get started or to improve your existing technique. It is the way that Janul delivers her real time tuition and addresses techniques learned over many years of both leisure boating and commercial steering. The author goes the extra mile to drive home the readers understanding of "why" many people struggle to get things right.

If you are a complete beginner, there is basic tuition in the form of "how to" and exercises to get you started. You will find technical information and reasons why sometimes, people do things differently.

For those who have steered for a while and who fancy polishing their skills, there is plenty in there to help improve on those hard to grasp manoeuvres.

With nine pages of hints, tips and exercises on just the dreaded reverse, that, alone, should make you curious....

As owner and principal of Canal Experience Training, JANUL is an experienced RYA Instructor for courses including the RYA Helmsman. Her qualifications also include the MCA Boatmaster, used during many seasons of work on “Jason’s Trip”, in Little Venice, London. After four decades of diverse boating, including coalboats, tugs and other workboats, JANUL’S teaching has an edge of varied technique.

She considers herself fortunate to have had such opportunities.

When Perriwillow the Dwarf got lost on the riverbank in Dwarf City, little did he expect to find himself captured by a dark witch, in a charming tale of good against evil.
Even less did he expect to be transported to another world and chased by Walter the Wizard, in an exciting adventure around the UK Canal system as he flees from evil to get back home.
Magic and mystery, friendship and history, this is a charming tale of good against evil.

The backdrop of the old canal intertwined with real-life characters and boats gives the story an imaginative edge which will inspire readers to visit the Inland Waterways for themselves.
Appealing to all age groups, you will be taken from humour to sadness, fantasy to reality and into another world (or maybe two).

A humorous and lighthearted insight into canal life at its best, this book will draw you into the world of the mysterious and sometimes dark liquid highway. It will see you laughing, but often from the edges of your seat.

Written in over 1600 verses of lilting rhyme, if you already enjoy the good v evil of Tolkien's "The Hobbit", the lilt of Julia Donaldson's "The Gruffalo" or the classic tales of "Rupert The Bear", then you will love Perriwillow.

"Pirate" is a narrowboat.

This series of rhyming stories, told from the viewpoint of Pirate The Narrowboat, gives an introduction to the UK canals and what happens in the life of a narrowboat - though Pirate leads a more exiting life than many!

What is it like inside a narrowboat? "Through The Lock" gives you a guided tour, then takes you out on a trip along the canal and through a lock.

When boats need attention, they are often put into a dry dock to be mended. "Pirate In The Dock" sees a sick Pirate being admitted to the "rudder ward" to get a damaged rudder fixed, helped by his friend "The Duke".

"Pirate Goes To A Festival" sees young Pirate, who is trying to be grown up, going to a festival to join in. Many lessons are delivered by the old boats, to teach Pirate how to behave. But he does get to take part in the famous "TUG-PULL".

Pirate books are suitable to be read to children, but can be enjoyed by all who want to know about the UK canals.
